If you have a website, you would have noticed something about doing business on the internet that is true for about 95% of websites. "Customers rarely buy on their first visit to your site and they almost never return. That means lost opportunities to sell your product which means lost money! How do we change that so we can make more money? iv> We need to get as many of those visitors as possible to return as often as possible. < The most effective, easiest and proven way to get more visitors to return is to do the following: Build your own opt-in email subscriber list. Build a relationship with the people on that list. Offer them good reasons to revisit your site and purchase your product. To make sure you know what I mean by your own opt-in email subscriber list, I am referring to a list of people that have given you their email address and agreed to receive emails from you in relation to your websites content. Let me clarify those terms for you: Opt-in means they have chosen to join your list by checking a box or clicking on a link. Email address is their personal email address. Subscriber is a person who has submitted their e-mail to a list owner during a sign-up process and expects to be contacted by the owner of that list. If you look at your website statistics and compare your conversion rate with your unique visitor rate, then you know how many visitors to your site don't buy. If you are getting two or three conversions per 100 unique visitors you are doing exceptionally well. But what happens to the other 97+ visitors...they are gone, usually forever. In direct mail, I have often seen figures quoted that indicate customers can take up to 7 separate mailings before they buy, with most purchasing on the third or fourth approach. These statistics translate to a large degree into online marketing. Customers won't usually buy until at least the second or third visit to your website. Sometime even more visits are needed. These figures can vary but the message is clear; in the vast majority of cases, one visit is not going to get you the sale. So how do you improve your conversion rate? With billions of dollars in online purchases being made every year from websites just like yours, how do you get your share? By getting potential customers to visit your website several times. By getting them to trust you. By giving them a reason to buy from YOU instead of the other hundreds of sites out there. There is no other answer. Now unless you have some way of contacting that visitor again, they have more than likely gone forever, disappeared into cyberspace. But by building and maintaining your very own opt-in email subscriber list you have the opportunity to email them with tempting offers to get them to revisit your site again and again. To understand why this is true you, let's summarize todays information by noting some well accepted facts about customer behavior online. Summary: Only a very small percentage of visitors purchase on their first visit to your site. They will only return to your website for a very good reason. Customers need to trust you before they will purchase. Now this poses the following questions for someone starting to build their own list. What's the best way to start building that trust between your potential customers and yourself? What's the cheapest and most effective method of keeping in contact with your potential customers to continue building that trust. How do you set up the WIN-WIN situation between you and your subscribers so you can make money sooner? I will answer these vital questions in Part 2 of this 7 Part Mini Course.
